Cesar E. Chavez High School (CCSH)Geology students recently took their learning beyond the classroom with an engaging field study along California’s Central Coast. The trip included visits to Montaña de Oro State Park and the Coastal Discovery Center at San Simeon State Beach, offering students a unique opportunity to experience Earth science in action.

At Montaña de Oro State Park, students examined coastal rock formations, observed evidence of weathering and erosion, and explored the forces that shape California’s dramatic coastline. From rugged cliffs to tide-swept shorelines, the location served as a dynamic outdoor classroom for studying geologic processes.

On a separate field trip, they traveled to the Coastal Discovery Center in San Simeon, where students deepened their understanding of marine ecosystems, coastal conservation, and the interaction between land and sea. Through exhibits and guided exploration, students connected scientific concepts to real-world environmental challenges.

This hands-on experience allowed students to apply classroom knowledge in a meaningful way, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
