Local Wrestlers Compete at State
Delano High's Angel Nava and Robert F. Kennedy High's Eric Campos both qualified for the state meet in Bakersfield. Delano senior wrestler Angel Nava at 113 pounds placed 8th in the section meet, losing to Chavez of Central on injury default in the 7th place match. Eric Campos is a senior with a record of 27 wins and 12 losses. He placed 3rd at the Coyote Classic, 4th at the Dennis Deliddo, 6th at True Wrestler, 3rd at the Sierra Sequioa Valley Championships, and 10th at the Masters. His plans after high school are to attend Bakersfield College and go into architecture. Campos is a four-year wrestler, he wrestled his first two years on the JV team with only winning one match his freshman year.
At the state championships March 2-3 in Bakersfield, Campos lost decisions 12-2 to a Buchanan wrestler and then 5-1 to a San Fernando wrestler. Nava was pinned with 45 seonds left in his match by a Downey wrestler and then lost 5-1 to a Chico wrestler.
