Howlin' at the Ridgeview High Band Competition
The Cesar E. Chavez High School Titan marching band competed in the Ridgeview High Howl Field Show competition in Bakersfield on Saturday, October 27. After hundreds of hours of rigorous hard work and dedicated practices under the blistering summer heat, the Titan band won 1st place in Division 3A. They also earned 1st place in music, 3rd in color guard, and 1st in overall high score in high percussion and high visuals. In the sweepstakes competition, they earned 2nd with a score of 87.2 after Stockdale High’s 89.1.
Senior Zhakeila Cabico said, “My last first competition on Saturday was a success. We took 1st place in percussion overall and I could not be anymore proud of my section and especially the band and colorguard.”
Delano High and Robert F. Kennedy high marching band also competed with Delano earning 2nd place and Kennedy 3rd in Division 2A. Kennedy also won 1st in visuals in their division.
This astounding and humbling achievement for CCHS Titan band members would not have been made possible without the strong cultural foundations and expectations of these students and the unconditional support of Mr. and Mrs. Gonzales and staff.
“Kids have worked a lot of day and nights and have committed themselves to protect their reputation. We continue to get better daily,” said Mr. Gonzales, Titan Band Director.
Upcoming Titan band events will be at the Orange Cove competition on November 3, Stockdale Spectacular competition on November 10 and will be performing at the Porterville Bandorama on November 12.
Delano High and RFKHS bands are respectfully lead by Marlex Booc and Kevin Vue.
