Read Across America
This month [March], we celebrate the 114th birthday of children's book auther Dr. Seuss, formally known as Theodor Seuss Geisel. For most of his career as a cartoonist and writer, Dr. Seuss has published over 60 books. Today, classrooms and homes welcome in many of his works. Children are able to identify Seuss for hte famous "Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham". It wasn't until the 1990's where the National Education Association advocated for a day to celebrate reading all over the country.
At CCHS, students are able to travel to schools within the DUESD, in order to participate in read alouds for students. Our Education Pathway students were able to participate in Read Across America Week for the two elementary schools, Del Vista and Nueva Vista. It shows to prove that Dr. Seuss's work should be carried out in children's reading, as Dr. Seuss will be recognized as a part of their childhood.
The artistic Dr. Seuss has truly changed education in America, for kids today still memorize words best by associating them wit pictures and repetition. Seuss exactly mastered that throughout his work writing after writing. So you ask: "He was a children's author and a doctor?" Although he wasn't an actual doctor, Seuss had mentioned that he added "Dr." to his pen name (a name writers use to go by in their works instead of their real name" since his father always wanted him to practice medicine.
