Course Description

This is a standards based course that emphasizes reading, writing, speaking, and listening in accordance with the California Core State Standards for English Language Arts (Grades 9/10) via the usage of high school and college/university texts. Reading analysis, Socratic discussions, and essays of 5 paragraphs compose the foundation of this course. Also, an emphasis will be based on the practical application of mathematics (CCSS Grades 9/10), which provides a foundation in mathematics which includes addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, percentages, pre-algebra and basic geometry. This course is for students who intend to pursue a high school diploma, a high school equivalency certificate (HiSET/GED), and/or a community college (like Bakersfield College) or for students who simply want to improve their English to a strong literacy level
