Welcome to Social Studies Department

  • The Social Studies program at RFK is diverse and comprehensive.  Students are provided the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of courses that will meet their needs and learning styles within an atmosphere that is challenging and caring.  Social Studies encompasses the study of  social relationships in all their variation, both past and present, drawing from the disciplines of economics, geography, government, and history. The Department endeavors to prepare students to:

    1. Think like historians and social scientists by using inquiry methods to analyze information and synthesize ideas.
    2. Demonstrate civic competence.
    3. Identify enduring traditions in American society and the contributions of various cultural and ethnic groups.
    4. Appreciate the interdependence of nations and people in a global society.
    5. Develop clear oral and written communication skills.
