• Robert F. Kennedy High School Lettering System


    It is a great honor to earn and be awarded the RFK Academic/Block "K" letter and it is with great pride that it is displayed.  A small block "K" will be issued to Robert F. Kennedy High School student when they have fulfilled the set of criteria outlined in this brochure.  The Associated Student Body (ASB) and Athletics Department will purchase the letters, pins, and bars for each student and these are awarded ast the appropriate awards ceremonies.  The school owns the letter until the student graduates and can be revoked at any time prior to graduation.  The letter may be displayed in a variet of ways such as frames, memory albumns or worn on Robert F. Kennedy High School letter jackets.  It is the responsibility of th student to report his/her participation in the "K" lettering program to the ASB/Athletics.  

    ACADEMICS

    • Students achieving a 3.5 or higher in two years will qualify a student for an Academic "K" award (four consecutive semesters = two years)
    • Students achieving a 4.0 will receive a 4.0 pin.

    ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS

    Participation and completion of two consecutive years in the following competitions will qualify a student for an Academic "K" award:

    • Mock Trial
    • History Day
    • MESA
    • Others not mentioned here.

    Students must have earned a "B: grade or better to qualify.

     ATHLETICS

    Participation in the following sports and earning 250 points will qualify a student for a Block "K."  Please click Athletic Point System or see the Athletic Director for more information.

    • Football
    • Volleyball
    • Cross Country
    • Tennis
    • Cheerleading
    • Basketball
    • Soccer 
    • Wrestling
    • Baseball
    • Softball 
    • Track & Field

    STUDENT PUBLICATION

    Participation and completion of two consecutive years in the following areas will qualify a student for an Academic "K" award:

    • Yearbook

    Student must have earned a "B" grade or better to qualify.  (Four consecutive semesters = two years).  Receiving a CR/PASS/FAIL does not qualify for a "K" award. 
    PERFORMING ARTS

    Participation and completion of two years in the following areas will qualify a student for the Academic (small block) "K" award:

    • Band
    • Choir
    • Drama
    • Dance

    Student must have earned a "B" grade or better to qualify.  (Four consecutive semesters = two years).

    GOVERNMENT

    • ASB Executive Officers will qualify for a small Block "K" award after two successful terms in office.
    • Class Officers will qualify for a small Block "K" award after two successful terms in office.
    • ASB Executive & Class Officers term = One year.
    • Saturdays and Interns do not qualify.  

    PINS and BARS

    Pins will be awarded when the Block "K" is awarded to signify the activity the student has participated in. Bars will be awarded after the initial letter for the number of years of participation in a particular area.

     SPECIAL RECOGNITION

    All special recognition awards are determined at the discretion of the Activities Director and/or Assistant Principal of Student Services and a recommendation must be submitted in writing (typed and signed) by the Advisor or Coach.
