2022-2023
Teacher of the YearMr. Garza has worked for the DJUHSD for 25 years. He started his career as a Delano Tiger, then moved to Cesar E. Chavez when the school first opened. His favorite subject to teach is Geometry and his passion is to make a positive impact on students’ lives and being a positive influence. When asked where he sees himself in ten years, his response was, “Being retired, traveling, and spending time with my wife and kids and extended family.”Classified of the YearMs. Jacquez has worked in the Delano Joint Union High School District for 25 years. She started her career as a financial aid technician, moved to dropout prevention, and now works as the Cesar E. Chavez High School Discipline Liaison where she works hand in hand with teachers, students, and parents to help improve our site culture. She is always where we need her and is extremely dependable and consistent in her job duties. When asked what her favorite part of the job would be, her response was, “working with students and seeing them get to celebrate their achievements through events on campus such as prom and graduation.”Student of the YearRyan Gamez currently holds a GPA of 4.49 and has taken an array of rigorous courses in which he has held nothing less than an “A” through four years of high school. Some of the courses include Ap Spanish Language, AP Statistics, AP English Language, Ap Spanish Literature, AP Physics, and a list of Dual Enrollment courses as well. Ryan plans on attending California State University of Bakersfield and major in Petroleum Engineering and then continue to pursue his education to receive his Doctorate . He would like to thank his family, especially his mother, who has always been by his side. She has been his motivation and shows him that anything is possible with perseverance. He would also like to thank his teachers for providing an engaging and fulfilling learning experience at Cesar E. Chavez High School. -

Iris Guerra
Iris Guerra is an attendance clerk at Cesar E. Chavez High School and has always shown a tremendous ability to take on multiple tasks. She is extremely hard working and is always looking for different ways to help others. She has worked in our district since 2000 and has held multiple roles at both DHS and CCHS. She states that her favorite part of the job is her daily interactions with parents and students. We would like to thank Iris for all that she does for our campus.
Aurora Delgadillo
Mrs. Delgadillo is Foreign Language teacher and department chair she has been with in our District for 32 years. Prior to becoming a teacher, Mrs. Delgadillo was an instructional aid in our district for 5 years. Despite the years of experience, we are always amazed with the energy and love that she brings each and every day. This year, she has taken on multiple roles as zero period 8th grade teacher, a drama teacher, Soccer coach, and department chair. Her love for our students is undeniable. We would also like to congratulate Mrs. Delgadillo for being selected as the District Teacher of the Year.
Mayra Lara
By her teachers and counselor, Mayra is described as confident, positive attitude, and respectful. Mayra has accomplished a lot during her time as a CCHS Titan. Some of what is she is most proud of is being abel to balance academics and extra-curricular activities. She has been selected as Soroptimist Girl of the Year as a Junior, has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Honor by the College Board, and given the National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar Award. She is currently ranked number 1 in her class and has applied to UC Berkley, UC Davis, UCLA, and Cal Poly. She currently has her heart set on UC Berkley to major in Civil Engineering. Her advice to younger CCHS Students is to “work hard all four years, because in the end, everything will count, but also make time to have fun”. We are confident that Mayra will accomplish all of her goals and much more.

2017-2018
Titan Teacher of the Year: Tony Mendez
Tony Mendez was born and raised in Delano, CA. His parents have worked in the fields for over 30 years and he is one of the first in his family to receive a college degree. He has a wonderful wife and two great sons. Tony began teaching Social Studies at DHS in 2010, where he also served as the varsity boys soccer coach as well. They won a valley championship in 2013. He since transferred to CCHS in 2016 and has won back-to-back valley championships in 2017 and 2018. Tony works hard on the field and in the classroom and that is why he is receiving this award. One of his favorite quotes is Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer. – The Apostle Paul.
Titan Student of the Year: Diana Calderon
Diana Calderon is a well-rounded student. She is currently ranked as the Top Senior at CCHS, with a GPA of 4.32. She has been enrolled in Honors and AP courses, and is currently part of the North Kern Vocational Training Program to gain experience in the field of Nursing. Throughout her years at CCHS, she has successfully balanced both academics and extra-curricular activities. Diana has been involved in Cheerleading all four years of high school, and is currently the Varsity Co-Captain. She is also the current ASB Vice President. Just recently she has been accepted to her dream school UCLA; more specifically, she's been accepted into the university's rigorous nursing program. She plans to pursue her degree in nursing and later become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Titan Classified Support Staff of the Year: Martin Perales
Martin Perales started working for the district in 2006 and during that time, he earned the district VIP award in 2013. For the past 5 years, Martin also served as the night lead custodian. He is a very important member on the custodial team. He is relied upon to make sure night custodial duties run smoothly. He is very responsible, dependable and highly resourceful. Along with his custodial assignments he makes sure the night custodial staff have supplies, guidance, performs light maintenance on campus, makes sure custodial tasks for events are done, and Martin has a very strong work ethic. He is hardworking and maintains a great attendance record. Martin is a very reliable person when needed last minute. He is a great person to have on our staff.

2016-2017
Titan Teacher of the Year: Aurora Delgadillo
A 30 year distinguished career in the district. She’s been our Foreign Language Department chair. For several years she found the time to be coach and assistant coach for Girls Soccer, AP Spanish Club advisor and Drama Club Advisor. For the last couple of years, she’s inspired our AP Spanish students in Bilingual Drama to perform an annual play for our local elementary students; she comes in on weekends and puts in an enormous amount of time to make this happen, including contacting and coordinating with our local elementary schools. Her colleagues comment that she is always available for her students, incorporates engaging activities such as Dia de Los Muertos.
Titan Classified Support Staff of the Year: Maggie Andrade
Began her career with Mr. Lopez with CELDT Testing. She has also subbed at RFK covering for Sassy position and attendance clerk the first month of 2008-09 school year and then subbed for the ASB clerk the following year. Other positions she's held as a sub were the IT dept. covering help desk, Pact program, special education as an instructional Aide, ELD dept as a resource secretary and ASB Clerk for 1 1/2 years before getting hired for the ASB Clerk permanent position in 2010.
“I am grateful for the CCHS administration and the Athletic and ASB Directors for giving me the opportunity to work at this awesome school with such amazing co-workers. I absolutely love my job and all the work and responsibilities that entails being the ASB Data Processing Clerk. I work hard but I also enjoy the various activities our ASB Executives organize throughout the school year. I am blessed to belong to the CCHS titan Team. This is the best school site I have ever worked at. “ said Mrs. Andrade.
Titan Student of the Year: Harnoor Bhatti
Currently Harnoor is at the top 3 GPA for graduating seniors. She has participated in Soccer, FBLA, NHS, Academic Decathlon (Sr. Team Captain), Service Club, PAWS Club. She has applied to Stanford, USC, Berkeley and UC Davis. She plans to major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a passion in becoming a Distinguished Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

2015-2016
This year’s Certificated Teacher of the Year is Ms. Angela Carabajal.Ms. Carabajal is in her fifth year of teaching, her fourth at Cesar E. Chavez High School. She has served students in Special Education, as Student Activities Director and currently facilitates the CTE Teacher Education Pathway. In addition to teaching, Ms. Carabajal has also served as the CCHS Cheerleading Advisor and has been the advisor for the Class of 2016 for the past two years. Before entering the teaching profession, Ms. Carabajal earned her Associate in Science Degree in Radiologic Technology, from which she worked as a nationally and state certified X-Ray Technologist at Delano Regional Medical Center. In her spare time, Ms. Carabajal enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and hopes to soon master the challenging game of golf.
Titan Senior Student of the Year is Joanna Sanchez.
Throughout her four years in high school, Joanna has been a part of the Titan Band, which took first place this year at the Stockdale Spectacular. She has also participated in the PAWS club, National Honors Society, and Academic Decathlon, which received first place in the interview category. During her junior year, Joanna was one of our representatives at a HOBY leadership seminar; and, she was recognized as a Carson Scholar, which granted her a scholarship of $1,000. Joanna has been accepted to multiple universities, including UCLA, UC Davis, and Cal Poly, and she will decide which college she will attend later in April. She plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in Biology and attend graduate school, where she will study veterinary medicine and one day hopes to own her very own Veterinary Clinic. She would like to thank her family for supporting her throughout the years and for always standing by her.
Classified Support Staff Employee of the Year is Ms. Veronica Sotelo.
Miss Sotelo’s journey with the DJUHSD began in 1995 when she was given the opportunity to work as a substitute clerk, then in 2001, she was officially employed as District wide substitute coordinator, a position that she held until in 2007. She was then given the opportunity to advance in her career, and so transferred to CCHS as ELD resource secretary. Here she assumed many responsibilities including CELDT student testing and other duties that gave her the opportunity to grow and interact more with parents and students which, by the way, she loves doing. She states, “At CCHS I have worked hand in hand with so many great and super- hardworking people like Mr. Rojas, Mr. Maldonado, Mrs. Rodriguez, and now Mrs. Pimentel and all the great staff we have here at CCHS. I must say I am very, very thankful to God and feel tremendously proud to be part of this great family, The Titan family!! “
